Sara Hartman
Violin

My introduction to playing a musical instrument dates back to third grade when an enthusiastic salesman talked my dad into buying me a violin to play in the newly formed string "orchestra". I loved it and continued to play through high school, RPYO, college, various community orchestras, and now the New Horizons Orchestras and the Fiddlers of the Genesee.

Following high school graduation, I got a BA from Mount Holyoke College, and, subsequently, a MPH from Yale Medical School (majoring in Hospital Admisistration) and a MBA from the University of Bridgeport. My professional career unfolded at the Rochester Area Hospital Corporation and in area hospitals (Strong Memorial, St. Mary's, Park Ridge, and the Unity Health System). My responsibilities at each were focused on program and clinical service planning for a full range of hospital, nursing home, and community based health care services. Concurrently, at R.I.T. I was an Adjunct Faculty member teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in health systems planning.

My community activities have complemented the above. I have served on the Boards of many organizations: Family Service of Rochester, The Harley School, The Harley Horizons Program, Fairport Baptist Homes vertically integrated long term care system, Fairport Savings Bank, Lifespan, Alzheimers Association, Hillside Children's Center, St. John's Home, and Integrated Mental Health.

My husband and I have also made a big commitment to youth. In addition to our own two children, we have been a foreign student host family for 35 students from around the world, foster parents for 42 years, and currently providing a home to two Unaccompanied Refugee Minors (Guatemala and Honduras).

As you might appreciate, music sustains my sanity!
