Nicholas Sharma
Conductor FO, SO

Nicholas Sharma is a Canadian-German conductor who is currently pursuing his DMA in Orchestral Conducting at the Eastman School of Music. Sharma has previously served as the assistant conductor of the Eugene Symphony Orchestra as well as Oregon Mozart Players from 2017-2019. While in Oregon, he also completed his Master's degree in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Oregon. Sharma received his Bachelor's degree in Violin Performance from the Eastman School of Music in 2017, studying with Professor Oleh Krysa, a former student of David Oistrakh. It was during Sharma's time at Eastman that he first began his conducting studies, working with various ensembles such as the Eastman Conducting Orchestra and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.

Sharma has been invited to summer festivals, including the Aspen Festival and School of Music as a conducting fellow in 2019, the National Academy Orchestra of Canada in 2020 and New World Symphony in 2022. Sharma has worked with many notable conductors, including Robert Spano, Scott Terrell, Patrick Summers, Neil Varon, Francesco Lecce-Chong and Kelly Kuo.

Sharma has continually sought to unite conducting with his passion for musicology. He was invited to present at the 2019 Musicking Conference in musicology on Symphonies from Mannheim in the late 18th century, creating a scholarly edition of symphonies from Anton Fils. He has led historically informed performances of pieces such as Beethoven's Symphony No. 2, Wagner's Tannhasuser Overture, and Fils' Sinfonia in G-minor.
