Tyler Ricks
Low Brass

Tyler Ricks is currently a first-year DMA tenor trombone student studying with Professor Zalkind. He holds a B.M. in euphonium performance from Tennessee Tech University, where he studied with professor R. Winston Morris, and just recently finished his M.M. in euphonium performance & literature from Eastman, where he studied with Professor Kellogg. Tyler's interests include new music as well as the pedagogy of low brass doubling; alongside teaching euphonium students at the University of Rochester and teaching the methods class at Eastman, he recently presented "The Evolution of the Bass Trumpet", an extensive study of the development, orchestration, and doubling practice of the instrument for fulfillment of his Master's degree that he just finished here at Eastman.

Tyler has been involved in various CD recordings for tuba ensembles led by R. Winston Morris, has performed as a euphonium soloist with the Bryan Symphony Orchestra, and has also performed with the Erie Philharmonic Orchestra. During his studies here at Eastman, he has performed with the Eastman Wind Ensemble, Musica Nova, Trombone Choir, and Tuba Mirum. Aside from his musical interests, Tyler enjoys spending his free time hanging out with friends and weightlifting.
